Is Türkiye safe for solo female travelers and families?
Yes. Türkiye is one of the most visited countries in the world. Major tourist hubs like Istanbul, Cappadocia, and the Aegean coast are very safe, with a strong police presence and a culture of hospitality (“Misafirperverlik“). Exercise standard big-city precautions against pickpocketing in crowded areas like Taksim or Sultanahmet.
Do US, UK, and EU citizens need a visa to enter Türkiye?
Regulations change frequently. Currently, many EU citizens can enter visa-free with ID cards. US and UK citizens typically require an E-Visa, which can be obtained online in minutes before travel.
Should I bring cash or use credit cards in Türkiye?
Credit cards (Visa/Mastercard) are accepted almost everywhere. However, you will need Turkish Lira (TL) cash for taxis, small street food vendors, and tipping. We recommend exchanging a small amount at the airport and using ATMs in the city for better rates. See our full guide at Currency Exchange.
How do I get from Istanbul Airport (IST) to the city center?
The new airport is about 40km from the center. You can take the Havaist shuttle bus or the new Metro line (M11), but for the most comfortable experience, especially with luggage, we recommend booking a Private VIP Transfer in advance to avoid taxi queues.
Is the MuseumPass Türkiye worth buying for a 10-day trip?
Absolutely. If you plan to visit Topkapı Palace, Galata Tower, Ephesus, and Göreme Open Air Museum, the pass pays for itself in just 3 visits. Plus, it allows you to skip the ticket lines, saving you hours of waiting time.
What is the dress code for visiting mosques like Hagia Sophia?
Mosques are active places of worship. Both men and women should cover their shoulders and knees. Women must cover their hair with a scarf (available at the entrance). Shoes must be removed before entering carpets. Read more etiquette tips at Blue Mosque.
Why is Türkiye so popular for dental and hair transplant tourism?
It combines high-quality medical education with state-of-the-art technology at a fraction of US/EU costs. Turkish clinics are strictly regulated by the Ministry of Health. You can often get a premium dental implant or hair restoration package (including hotel and transfer) for 70% less than home.
When is the best time to visit Cappadocia for hot air balloons?
Balloons fly year-round, weather permitting. However, April-May and September-October offer the most stable weather conditions with fewer cancellations. Winter offers snowy landscapes but a higher risk of flight cancellations due to wind.
Is it safe to drink tap water in Türkiye?
While tap water is chlorinated and technically safe in major cities, the taste can be strong, and pipes vary in age. Locals and tourists generally prefer bottled water, which is very cheap and widely available everywhere. Use tap water for showering and brushing teeth without worry.
What is the tipping etiquette in Turkish restaurants?
Tipping is not mandatory but highly appreciated. In restaurants, leaving 10-15% of the bill is standard if you are happy with the service. For taxi drivers, simply rounding up the fare is sufficient. Bellboys and housekeeping staff also appreciate small cash tips.
